Today
Today is the first page you see when you open Spotter. It shows every class meeting today at your studio, who’s checked in, and what’s coming up. It updates live, so a check-in at the front desk shows on every screen right away. The Live badge at the top tells you it’s current.

Before you have classes
Until your studio has classes, Today is a setup checklist: Create your studio, Invite your team, Bring your families over from Jackrabbit, and Bring over classes and rosters. Owners and admins see a link next to each step. See Getting started.
The numbers across the top
- Classes today: how many classes meet today.
- Checked in: students marked here, out of everyone expected today.
- Open seats: empty spots across today’s group classes that have a size limit.
- Active families: how many families are active at your studio.
Today’s classes
Each class shows its time, name, instructor, and room, with a roster bar and a line like “12 of 14 here · 1 makeup · 1 trial · 2 absent.” Today’s roster includes regular students plus trials and makeups booked for today. If a class has a waitlist, you’ll see how many are on it.
A note under the class name tells you when today is different:
- Cancelled: the class isn’t meeting today.
- Studio closed: today is a closure, like a holiday.
- Changed today: something about this class is different just for today, like the time, room, or instructor.
- A makeup session shows its own note.
Click a class to open it. Click Check in to take attendance. Once everyone is marked here, the button reads All here. See Attendance.
If nothing meets today, you’ll see No classes today with a link to the weekly schedule.
Activity
On a wide screen, the Activity column on the right lists check-ins and absences as they happen today: who checked in, who was marked absent, and who a parent said will miss class.
The studio at a glance (owners and admins)
Owners and admins see this extra section at the top of Today. Front desk and instructors don’t.
This month’s money
A card named for the current month shows:
- Collected: payments received this month, out of what was billed.
- Owed: what families owe right now, and how many families owe it.
- Next deposit: the next payout on its way to your bank from Stripe, and when it arrives.
Click the card to open Billing.
Needs you
Things that need a person, each linking to the page where you fix it:
- Failed payments
- Disputed payments
- Refunds that need a decision
- Money more than 30 days old
- Private lessons the studio cancelled that need a new date
- Waitlist offers that expire within a day
When there’s nothing to do, it says All caught up. Items drop off on their own once they’re settled.
Next 7 days
Events and their fee due dates, closures, classes starting or ending, and students’ first classes and trials coming up this week. Click any line to open it.
Search with ⌘K
Press ⌘K on a Mac or Ctrl K on Windows from any page. You can also click Search at the top of the sidebar, or the magnifying glass on a phone.
Type at least two letters to find:
- Families, students, and parents (a student or parent opens their family)
- Classes, by class name, program, or instructor
Search also lists shortcuts:
- Create: New family, New message, New event, and New class
- Go to: any page, like Billing or Reports
Use the arrow keys and Enter to pick, or Esc to close.
Search only shows what your role can open. Instructors search classes only, not families. New class is for owners and admins. New family, New message, and New event are for owners, admins, and front desk.
