Getting startedStudio type and words

Studio type and words

Your studio type tells Spotter what you teach. Spotter then uses your studio’s own words on screens, bills, and the parent app. A gym sees “gymnasts,” “coaches,” and “meets.” A dance studio sees “dancers,” “teachers,” and “competitions.” These docs say “student” and “instructor” to cover everyone.

You pick a type when you create your studio. You can change it any time.

Only owners and admins can change the studio type. Everyone else sees it in Settings but can’t edit it.

Change your studio type

Open Settings

Click Settings in the sidebar.

Pick a new type under Studio type

Choose Gymnastics, Dance, Swim, Cheer, Martial arts, Music, or Something else. The change saves right away. The line next to the menu shows the words Spotter will use.

Words that fit every studio stay the same: class, private lesson, level, session, makeup, family, and tuition.

Your team bill’s default name

The team bill’s default name follows your studio type, like “Competition team” for a dance studio or “Meet team” for a gym. If you haven’t renamed your bills, changing the studio type changes that default. Names you’ve set yourself stay. See Billing.
